The new Jandri marks a decisive milestone in the history of the resort and mountain area of Les 2 Alpes. As the true backbone of the mountain domain, this next-generation cable car now connects the resort (1,650 m) to the high-altitude area (3,400 m) in just 17 minutes, compared with 40 previously. A technological feat driven by SATA Group - AEON in collaboration with the manufacturer POMA, also from Isère, positioning the resort among the most innovative mountain destinations in Europe.
Designed as a showcase of Alpine expertise, the Jandri embodies performance, comfort, and sustainability. Built for the next 50 years, it fits into a long-term vision of a truly four-season mountain area. It redefines the visitor experience for skiers, hikers, families, and pedestrians, opening the way to an accessible and enjoyable mountain throughout the year.
The inauguration of the new Jandri in December 2024 marked the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter for the Les 2 Alpes resort. After nearly 40 years of service, the historic DMC (Double Mono Cable), opened in 1985, has been replaced by an ultra-modern infrastructure.
The goal: enhance the resort’s appeal, improve safety, and ensure sustainable operation for the next 50 years.
The Jandri is not just a means of transport. It is a symbol of progress, linking tradition and innovation. It showcases French expertise in cable transport and the pioneering role of Les 2 Alpes in the future of Alpine tourism.
Designed and built by POMA, a global leader in cable transport, the Jandri cable car is one of the most modern infrastructures ever installed in France. The “3S” technology uses three cables (two carrying, one hauling), ensuring exceptional stability even in winds up to 100 km/h. This system delivers unmatched travel comfort and high reliability in winter, summer, spring, and autumn.
The spacious, panoramic cabins accommodate 32 passengers, including 24 seated. They offer spectacular views over the entire ski area in all seasons and travel at a speed of 8 meters per second. The system can carry 3,000 people per hour, significantly easing traffic on the resort’s main axis.
The Jandri consists of two sections:
Section 1 connects the departure station at 1,650 m to the mid-station at 2,600 m.
Section 2 connects the mid-station at 2,600 m to the arrival station at 3,200 m.
The entire design was guided by the aim of limiting environmental impact and optimizing energy efficiency.
The structure uses durable, recyclable materials, and the number of pylons has been reduced from 17 to just 7 to protect the landscape and local wildlife.
The cable car operates on 100% electricity and integrates onboard intelligence to adjust speed and capacity depending on visitor numbers.
The former Jandri Express, in service since 1985, required almost 40 minutes to reach 3,200 m. With the new Jandri cable car, the trip now takes just 17 minutes, a time savings of more than 55%.
This improvement transforms the visitor experience: less waiting, greater comfort, and better optimization of a day in the mountains. Queues are drastically reduced thanks to a capacity of 3,000 people per hour, ensuring smooth access to high altitude.
The new Jandri is not limited to winter. Designed to operate nearly 10 months out of 12, it provides direct high-altitude access in all seasons.
In winter, it serves the ski area and its 220 km of pistes, allowing skiers to quickly reach high-altitude zones.
In summer, it becomes the gateway to various activities: hiking, mountain biking, trail running, or simple panoramic outings. Pedestrians can enjoy the ride, discover the high mountains, and admire the 360-degree Alpine views from the panoramic cabins.
The cable car also connects directly to the funicular and Destination 3400, providing seamless access to the highest areas of the domain. This versatility makes the Jandri a key element of the resort’s four-season strategy, aimed at developing balanced and sustainable tourism throughout the year. It also plays an essential role in welcoming national and international ski teams during their training period from May to early July.
The new cable car is included in the Les 2 Alpes full-area ski passes and accessible with pedestrian passes during summer. Departure is from the resort center (1,650 m), with arrival at 3,200 m.
Opening hours vary depending on the season, with schedules adapted to skiing, hiking, and sightseeing activities. The installation is accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM), and dogs are allowed in summer.
Thanks to its modern, inclusive design, the Jandri guarantees a comfortable and safe journey to the summits for everyone.
The new Jandri cable car is far more than a lift. It is the result of a shared vision of a faster, more accessible mountain. With its 3S technology, the sustainable commitment of SATA Group - AEON, and the ambitions of the Les 2 Alpes resort, this project reshapes the standards of high-altitude transport.
Offering a spectacular ascent to the high-altitude domain, exceptional panoramic views, and absolute comfort, the Jandri represents the mountain of tomorrow: sustainable, high-performing, and open to all.
